Jack Richards was a remarkable athlete, dedicated aspiring lineman, and loyal friend. A 2020 graduate of Royal High School, he excelled in Taekwondo, water polo, and wrestling—earning honors such as CIF Champion and two-time State qualifier. Beyond his achievements, Jack was known for his compassion, resilience, and unwavering support for others.
After high school, Jack pursued his passion for challenging, hands-on work by enrolling at Northwest Lineman College, graduating in 2021 and preparing for a career as a union lineman. He believed in the dignity of hands-on work, the importance of safety, and the strength of working as part of a crew. Tragically, he died by suicide in July 2023. In his memory, we founded the Jack Richards Memorial Scholarship Fund to carry forward his legacy of strength, service, and commitment to the trades.
Our mission is to support students pursuing careers in skilled trades, vocational schools, and career training programs—especially those who demonstrate perseverance, integrity, and a commitment to their communities. What began as a scholarship for graduating seniors in the Simi Valley Unified School District has expanded to include students at Moorpark College and those enrolled in trade schools and certification programs, broadening access to career-focused education.
The Memorial Scholarship provides:
We aim to uplift students pursuing practical, in-demand careers—especially those facing financial or personal challenges, including mental health struggles—honoring Jack’s empathy, resilience, and commitment to others.
